The social media train has well and truly left the station, and if you forgot to hop aboard, you better quickly jump on before you miss your stop.

With the introduction of Web 2.0, the internet is now being used in ways that could never have been imagined 30 years ago. With an emphasis being placed on User-Generated Content and Consumer-Generated Media, individuals and business’ are flocking to these platforms.
According to the 2018 Yellow Social Media Report, 62% of Australians use social media sites every day. Furthermore, 44% of consumers follow businesses or brands on social media. These growing numbers helps to paint a picture of the changing digital landscape and how businesses need to take advantage of the growing social media influence.
These days, whenever we want to find out more about a brand or business, we often type the name into Google. Once clicking the search button, you will most likely see one of the brand’s social media pages within the Top Five search results. When exploring their Facebook or Instagram page, you immediately get a feel for the personality and vibe of the business and this creates an important first impression. This impression then decides whether you make a purchase from this business, visit this new café or just follow the account so you can stay up to take with their content.
An example of a brand which has generated a loyal social media following on the Instagram platform is HiSmile. The teeth whitening brand which launched in 2014, leveraged the power of Social Media Influencers to promote their hero product and has allowed them to grow to 1.3 million followers in the space of six years. This definitely would not have been possible without the power behind social media.

Here are my Top Five Tips for Social Media Growth
1. Timing is crucial. 8pm on a Sunday is the time social media users are most active
2. Make your graphics eye-catching!
3. Develop a tone and style that relates to your followers
4. Post interactive content that starts a conversation or discussion
5. Create a loyal community by regularly engaging with your followers
I look forward to having a discussion in the comments about the growth of social media.

Thanks for your comment Morgan! I'm glad we agree that first impressions really count and how the business portrays itself to customers is also very important.
Awesome blog post zoe!! It’s super evident that the way your business markets itself online is really a lasting impression (almost like a first date!!) so it’s imperative that businesses get the right feel for how they want to be portrayed.
