I’m going to guess you’re either reading this post on it OR it is sitting next to you or in your back pocket!

Our smartphones are leaving us more connected to the digital world than ever before. These devices are GLUED to our hands and it’s not surprising to know that 87% of Australians own a smartphone.

Businesses who choose to leverage mobile marketing are leading the pack in terms of consumer retention and skyrocketing profits.

Here are 3 tried and tested ways businesses have taken advantage of mobile marketing:

1. QR codes:

Quick response (QR) codes are scannable barcodes made up of a series of black squares and lines which direct a consumer straight to an online link. In the wake of Covid-19, Zomato is one company which has utilised this technology with their new Contactless Dining experience. Customers are able to scan the QR code to view the menu then consequently order and pay via their phone.

2. In-app advertising:

Companies are beginning to understand that they must be creative when marketing their brand and products. Nestle partnered with King, a legendary app developer responsible for games such as Candy Crush Saga to create a ‘value exchange’. This meant that in exchange for a gaming user watching a Nestle ad, they would be rewarded with an extra life or in app currency. Nestle achieved fantastic results with a 99.5% view-through rate and 3% click-through rate on Android.

3. Location-based marketing

This method pinpoints a customer’s exact geographical location and allows for tailored advertising. Geofencing is one aspect of this and when the target audience steps into the virtual boundary, they will begin to receive marketing material from the brand. Wholefoods was able to target consumers with mobile ads to come shop at their store when they were in a certain location and close to competitor supermarkets.

So, my question to my readers this week, is how many times did you pick up your phone today?

(To access this information on an iPhone, go to Settings -> Screen Time -> See All Activity -> Scroll down to Pickups and check you total)
